Pickleball Court FAQ

How to Tell If Your Pickleball Court Needs Resurfacing

A worn court does not fail all at once. It fades, slicks over, and starts to crack, and in the Arizona sun that happens faster than most owners expect. Here is how to know when a court is due for resurfacing, and why waiting costs more.

How often does a pickleball court need resurfacing?

In the Phoenix metro, most courts need resurfacing every four to six years. UV and heat break down the acrylic coating faster here than in milder climates, so Valley courts run on the shorter end of that range. If it has been longer than that, it is worth a look.

What are the signs a court needs resurfacing?

Watch for faded or chalky color, a slick or worn texture that has lost its grip, a ball that no longer bounces true, visible cracking, and water that ponds and is slow to dry after rain. Any one of these is worth watching. Two or more together usually means it is time.

Is my court just cracking, or does it need a full resurface?

A few isolated cracks on an otherwise sound surface can often be handled with crack repair alone. Widespread cracking, fading, and lost texture across the whole court point to a full resurface instead. An on-site look is the only honest way to tell which one you are dealing with.

Can I resurface instead of rebuilding the court?

Almost always, yes. As long as the base is sound, resurfacing restores color, grip, and a true bounce for a fraction of the cost of a new court, and a quality recoat can add another five to ten years of play. We only recommend a rebuild when a base problem makes a recoat a waste of money.

How long does resurfacing take?

Most resurfacing jobs wrap in a few days of dry weather, including crack prep and cure time. We schedule around your court's availability and keep the site clean from start to finish.
